Hallelujah moments: 1) Uplifting worship on Sunday, with several Ruritan Club members present and a total of 77; 2) meeting with confirmands, listening to their professions of faith in Jesus Christ; 3) listening to the birds greet each new day; 4) putting out my American flag to remember the fallen for freedom’s cause and 4) answered prayer for J.B. and Jean Bishop and others on our prayer list.

Recent additions to our prayers for comfort: the family of Chad Miller, Sandy Bailey’s nephew in Iowa. Send a prayer card—stamped cards are ready on the sanctuary organ.

Celebrate the Holy Spirit moving in our young, and in all who call upon the Lord this Sunday as we observe the Day of Pentecost. Read Acts 2:1-21. A reception after worship sponsored by the United Methodist Women will honor both confirmands and graduates. Our confirmands are Ben Bonnell, Emily Bowie, Andrew Helmer, Briana Milliner, Abby Powers, and Christopher Smith. Graduating this spring from Prince George High School: Sara Holdsworth, Kaitlyn Nikolaisen, and Carrie Young.

Brown leading and Ms. Zsa Zsa Johnson sharing, and learning that 63 were present, including several children; 2) being with our adult Blinn children and their spouses in their homes, especially celebrating the graduate; 3) answered prayer for the Houck family members (Evan, Conner and Frank); 4) many church members and first responders present for Josh Culler’s service today in Petersburg; and 5) coming home to the welcome of members and dear friends.

Recent additions to our prayers for healing: Kathleen DeGrazia (Simmons’ family friend); Bob Ealey (Walter Massey’s brother-in-law); and Vanessa Blick (Marvin Blick’s niece). Celebrate more good news than not-so-good this Sunday as we observe the Ascension of Our Lord Sunday, reading Acts 1:1-11. If you don’t yet have one, take a Baby Bottle home to fill with change for the Pregnancy Support Center of the Tri-Cities. This is “Change the World” Weekend across our denomination!

Hallelujah moments:  1) worship Sunday morning with 62 present, Carrie Young assisting, good singing from the Adult Choir, several visitors and $4,378 in the offering; 2) all the men (and helpful ladies) and actors in the successful Dinner Theater; 3) answered prayer seeing Jean and J.B. Bishop and Bill and Betty Jean Brockwell out and about, and hearing that Calab Carter is better; 4) advanced degree graduates Christy Damrath (Social Work, VCU) and Christopher Blinn (Special Education, Temple Univ.); and 5) gentle rain, warm sunshine and the fresh smells of spring.

 

Recent additions to our prayers for healing:  Evan Coumes (Charlene and Bob Hauck’s grandson) and Austin Nicole (Julie Helmer’s friend).  Phone calls are one way to share love.

 

Come hear an affirmation of life this Sunday with guest speaker Ms. Zsa Zsa Johnson. Ms. Johnson is the Executive Director of the Pregnancy Support Center of the Tri-Cities.  Scripture is John 15:9-17.  Happy Mother’s Day!  Take a Baby Bottle home to fill with change.

 

I will be in upstate New York with Mary Beth visiting Anna and Garrett, after visiting Christopher and Kate for his graduation in Philadelphia.  We return Monday afternoon.

Hallelujah moments:  1) the JAM Youth (“Jesus And Me”) leading worship Sunday morning with 79 present and $3,038 in offering; 2); J. B. Brown leading a gospel-sing after lunch on Sunday; 3) answered prayer at Sussex II State Prison, with hearts changed from depressed to joyful, lost to guided, and professions of faith in Jesus Christ; 4) all Prince George leaders gathered for the annual Farm Bureau Legislative Dinner here on Monday; and 5) warm days for biking and gratitude for so much life and love.

In our prayers for healing:  Gerald, 5-year-old friend of Pattie Arwood; Bill Brockwell, home from the hospital; Josh Culler, MCV; Bobby Temple and Canton Goodman.  For care and guidance, Calab Carter and family, and Catharine Tomkins and all others new to assisted living.  Catharine is Jacqui Simmons’ sister-in-law Carolyn Thacker’s mother.

It’s not too late to plan to attend “God’s Surprising Choices,” the United Methodist Men’s Dinner Theater on May 4 and May 5.  Spread the word, and invite a friend.  See any Trinity Men’s Club member, or call the church at 991-2252 to reserve a seat.  It has been fun to work alongside my fellow actors Marvin Blick, Rev. Bob Hauck, Matt McAllister, Ben Bonnell and Christopher Smith.

Renew your connection to Jesus the Vine this Sunday.  Scriptures are 1 John 4:7-21 and John 15:1-8.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.

Children and youth ministries meet this Sunday beginning with Confirmation Class at 5.  Children’s Choir goes from 6:30 to 7, followed by Bible Adventure Club and Active Christian Tweens.  The youth group meets at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall.  The Adult Class will meet 6:30 to 8:00, studying Revelation 18.

Help put Henry Fork Service Center over the top with proof-of-purchase labels from any product made by Campbell’s, PopSecret, Bic, Prego, V8 and Swanson, to name a few.  The complete list is in the Narthex.

Pentecost Sunday, May 27, will be Confirmation Sunday.  We will celebrate the Holy Spirit’s moving in six young persons, claiming Christian faith as their own.  We will also remember those who made the final sacrifice for their country.  Many of these were members of the world-wide Church which began on Pentecost Sunday.

Midweek Thoughts from Pastor Bob

Hallelujah moments: 1) Rev. Jimmy Taylor leading worship last Sunday, with JB Brown assisting and 51 faithful attending; 2) Sandra Bailey leading Bible Study on the 18th; 3) answered prayer for Junius Britt, Pattie Munford, Ernest Holloman, and J.E. Bishop; 4) helpers for the homebound including Wilda Rolley, Phyllis Warren and Pattie Arwood; and 5) all the ways love is profoundly shared in visits and phone calls.

In our prayers for healing: Jean Bishop and J. E. Bishop, as the Lord helps them recover at home; Becky Trobaugh (Karen Owens’ sister) and Cathy Vick (Sandy Bailey’s friend). For comfort, the family of Ruby Leonard’s sister Agnes’ husband, the family of Officer Shelly Crowder. For care and guidance, Eric Coppler, seeking work; peace in Syria, those experiencing tornados, and the United Methodist General Conference in Tampa.

Hear the Good News about bodily resurrection on Sunday. The Children’s Choir will sing. A Healing Service will be included. A special offering will be received for Native American Ministries. Scripture: Luke 24:36b-48.

Sunday evening activities as usual, except the Adult Class will meet 6:30 to 7:30, studying Revelation 16. Rehearsal for “God’s Surprising Choices” will follow at 7:30.

The Staff Parish Relations Team meeting was postponed due to work conflicts for some. New date yet to be set.

I’ll need all Kairos cookies, cards, and names of prayer warriors by Wednesday morning, April 25. Thank you to Phyllis Brockwell, Janet Reames, Jimmy Brockwell, Howard Helmer, Carol Moody, Joe Simmons and Mary Beth Blinn for taking half-hour prayer slots. I still need three Thursday evening at 8:30 or 9:30.

April 29 is Youth Sunday. The Church Council recently approved a grant of $2,200 for their summer mission trip. Hooray, Youth! Fellowship Dinner after worship on the 29th, with special music.
